“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder. You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger. May you never take one single breath for granted. God forbid love ever leave you empty handed. I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean. Whenever one door closes, I hope one more door opens. Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance. And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance… I hope you dance.”
Did you know that every day is the first for the rest of your life? So why not make today count? Why not dance?
When focusing more on the issue rather then the solution, we surround ourselves with negativity that blinds us. Loosing hope… not seeing the light… anger… depression… sorrow. All these emotions can become overwhelming.
Familiar questions and thoughts may pop into our heads. “Why do I work so hard? Why am I still here? What if it doesn’t work out? If only I had a SSN. I’m about to loose my mind! If only I was born in the states. What if… if only… what if… ”
When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place.
I remember…
· All nighters when I stay up studying. Being sleep deprived for a couple days is worth it at the end of the semester when I see the outcome on my GPA.
· Long hours of work with little pay. My back hurts from carrying so many children. But oh my gosh! How nice it is to be able to pay for school books!
· Individuals telling me I wouldn’t amount to anything because college wasn’t for people like me.
I remember a promise. At 5 years old, standing by the UW stadium, my daddy made me promise him that someday I’d graduate from a university and NEVER give up. Daddy… I won’t give up.
You. Me. Us. We’ve made it this far and we can’t loose hope! Not now. Not ever.
Remember how you’ve overcome your struggles and why you are where you are today. Focus on the positive not the negative and I promise you’ll see a light of hope.
TODAY is the first for the rest of my life. I WILL make today count. I WON‘T give up.
Today I Shall Dance
“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance. Never settle for the path of least resistance. Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking. Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth making. Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter. When you come close to selling out… reconsider. Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance. And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance… I hope you dance” (Lee Ann Womack)
