D4PC Congressional Liaision Report | 01.06.2010

I'm AR, a brand new DREAM Agent!

I am so honored to be part of this community of future leaders. Staying involved and knowing what's going on is the key to moving forward. So I hope with my posts I can give you access to more information regarding what's going on with immigration reform in Washington D.C.

I am currently an intern for a Member of Congress on the Hill. It is a great honor and privilege to be part of such a fantastic office, but most importantly I am able to stay very connected with what's going on with legislation regarding all kinds of issues. Since I came to the U.S from Colombia at 15 and I am not yet a permanent resident, immigration is of course at the top of my list.

Right now the Hill is very quiet. The Health Care vote is what's on everyone's mind. Still, 2010 is a big year for immigration. The U.S Congress and Senate will resume activity next week and once they do, immigration will become a very heated issue. Until then, don't sit still! Let your voice be heard!

The best way of voicing your concerns and opinions is by writing to those in power. I encourage you to write to your Congressman or Congress-woman and let them know how the DREAM Act will affect you. If they don't support it, give them reasons why they should and if they do, then be sure to thank them. Even though we can't vote for them, we have to make sure they know we still care.
