The Essence of Life is Struggle

I get it. Life is unfair. You never can get what you want and if you do get what you want then it's not what you expected. Quit looking at life that way because in the end it will only make you sad, an who wants that? The essence of life is struggle. Struggle builds character. Without it, what are you? If everything was given to you, what kind of person would you be? The other day, I went to a family friend's house, and it made me realize how fortunate I was to be illegal. She gets everything she asks for; as a result, she is very ungrateful for the things she has. Wow, I thought how can a person be ungrateful when she has everything? How can a person be so shallow and materialistic? Sadly, she doesn't know what struggle is, and sadly she doesn't have character. I thought to myself, does she even know what life really is?

Yes, I know things are not going the way I want them to, but I am fortunate enough to understand that things are not always picture perfect. Being illegal teaches me patience, understanding, and instills morals in me. It makes me understand the value of things. I swear, if I had my papers I would never be the positive person I am today. I would never have been grateful for the simple things like a social security number. Everyone, I know things are rough, but it is what it is. If you're heart is filled with faith then you can't fear. Make the best with what you have, and put a smile on because that's one step closer to a more promising world.
