Without a Country

I have no patriotism...Not for the country in which I was born and not for America either. This is the truth and I am not going to sugar coat it. Why? I don't feel patriotism for the country that saw me come into the world because obviously there was no opportunity for my family and me to succeed, that my mom and dad found it necessary to leave all of our family, belongings, memories and lifestyle for America, to risk our lives when I was only five years old, to reach the so called land of opportunity. Now let me explain why I don't feel patriotism towards the U.S. It is true that this country has given me opportunities that I probably would not have otherwise obtained if I would have stayed in Mexico, but at the same time, the only reason why I have achieved this is because my family and I have worked extremely hard to be where we are at. Undocumented individuals do not have privilege that all U.S citizens have, especially white, male, citizens. Not only do we have to fight discrimination, but also injustices because we lack a set of numbers. You can bet that undocumented individuals have to work several times more for what others who aren't in our situation receive. When I see people like me being terrorized by raids, families separated, talented students on the verge of deportation, injustices in the work force, and many, many other injustices in all aspects of life, you can be sure that I do not have patriotism for this country. Not only am I undocumented, but I also without a country.
