For the FIFTH year in a row, some Washingtonians are trying to pass laws that would hurt undocumented residences immensely. I-1056, would require all public and private businesses to use a new system called “E – Verify” which verifies employees status.
Thanks to E-Verify, we would be turned away for nonemergency public benefits for example; lottery winnings, college assistance and obtaining drivers’ licenses.
The group promoting this movement, “Respect Washington”, for the past 6 years have failed to get similar initiatives on the statewide ballot or before the legislature for passage. To make the November ballot they need a total of 241,153 signatures.
Fortunately, Respect Washington admits that this year they didn’t have many volunteers and their funding is low. What they DO have in favor is that Americans are growing more and more frustrated with the unemployment rates, making E-Verify a tempting option.
